Gasmilla (Ghana/2014)

I can't help sharing this awesome piece: "Boosha" from ghanaian emperor of Azonto rhythm. No more "Coupé-décalé" or other modern soukous rhythms, finally an african rhythm that can be exported outside the continent. Booshaaaaa.

Booshaaaaa.

Baden Powell (Brazil/1966)

I discovered Baden Powell when I was 11 years old and he changed my life for ever. I was discovering a music on which you could imagine your own lyrics. Baden Powell has made of me the poet I am today. Baden Powell is one of the best guitarist ever. This album has been recorded live in Rio at Santa Rosa Theatre in 1966.

Anassoua Jazz de Parakou is an avatar of Anos Band. Alidou Boukary is partly leader of both bands. Those artists of north Benin like Anos Bandn, Anassou Jazz or fabulous Super Borgou, reveal us extremely rich music.

First record is the one i prefer et the most recent one, around 1972-75. Compositors are Assouma Mama and Yacoubou Issoufou Alfa

On label Discafric, Alidou Boukary composed all the four titles. It's another period 1968-70. Rumba and Bolero's rhythms.

T.P. POLY-RYTHMO & Avolonto Honoré

There are some records that fall into oblivion as they deserved more attention. Here is a good example with this album of Honore Avolonto backed by Poly-Rythmo. I thank Jam Magica for being the first to share this recording with us. On this album I strongly like the powerfull title: "Ayi Yaman Houé"...

YIEN'S CABREL (Benin/1982)

Very nice soukous album of Yien's Cabrel, an obscure artist from Benin (another one). I could not guess which band is playing back. This recording honors the famous Porto-Novo's footbal team called "the Dragons". I love the the cover.

N.T.M (1990/2010)

During 2005 to 2010 I edited portraits of artists for french tv live show. I keep in memory editings like most popular french hip hop band N.T.M (Fuck Your Mother).
This portrait has earned me 15 minutes of fame...

BLACK SANTIAGOS Led by Ignace de Souza (Ghana/1965)

Pretty old record of the Black Santiagos led by beninese trumpet player Ignace de Souza and recorded in Ghana in 1965. "Pretty Little Angel"is a twist rhythm and "Augustina" is a highlife.

The One Man Band / L'Homme Orchestre: DANIALOU SAGBOHAN (Full movie / 2006)

It is rare and it is good. Here is the Number 7 on label Badmos by Poly-Rythmo. This record is not easy to find so i will let you apreciate. I remind those who possess other records of this series to share them with happiness.

LES MESSAGERS DU BÉNIN (1978)

Excellent record of Les Messagers du Bénin on label Discafric. The band covered famous title "Nou Wa Me" from Danialou Sagbohan that you can find here or here. Side 2, also very good, with "Kou Ehou Issa" was composed by Janvier Kouazoti.

Once is not custom, here is an amazing band from Martinique: Difé. Created in 1977 by great drummer, singer and composer Alfred Varasse who opened the doors of modern martinican music. This album is excellent especially hit "Ki Moun Ou Yé". Recorded in 1982 the band made a brilliant tribute to Bob Marley on "In Syel Markey" ("Marley in the sky").

FERRY DJIMMY & His DJI-KINS (1971-1975)

I never mentioned remarkable beninese artist Ferry Djimmy, and for good reason, I have no record of him. Thanks to Pierre (Jam Magica) and Nuno (Kêtu Records) I can share this first Ferry Djimmy's album. Ferry Djimmy is always backed by an Ivorian band, The Dji-Kins, which was resident of famous Apollo club of Cotonou. Danialou Sagbohan notably made his debut with this band. I don't know who is the drummer of the band but he is for sure terrible. Unfortunately, on the this first Ferry Djimmy's album, recorded in 1971, i have only found three titles to share. Sorry

On the second record, distributed in 1975, and posted by famous Radiodiffusion blog, we can find the same funk style music influence that pleases european auditors. Ferry Djimmy and his Dji-Kins band had such tremendous talent that their funk style is universal.

Orchestre PICOBY BAND d'Abomey

I just actualized Orchestre Picoby's band post with two new records. One is on Echos sonores du Bénin 's label and the other one is a contribution from Ogoun Ferraille (I don't have the reference yet). Enjoy those two new records and good discovery for those who don't konw this band yet.

Very nice and rare album of Stanley Murphy backed by "Les Grands Colombias du Peuple". As usual Stanley Muprhy has something special. Difficult to find informations about Stanley's biography, still remains music.

T.P. Poly-Rythmo & Antoine Dougbe

Ultimate and original album on Oro, composed by Antoine Dougbe, the voodoo priest. This album is sublime, backed by Poly-Rythmo, sung by Bylledey Guissey and arranged by famous cameroon's guitarist Louis Wasson. Have pleasure.

Orchestre LES VOLCANS (1974)

For fans of Volcans' series, here is their first recording, composed by the unmistakable Joseph Atchade and dung by Paul Alapini. The record's label says: "Made in Dahomey" meaning that it was recorded (in mono) before 1975. The song "Sabira" is a slow meanwhile "Agba N' Agba" is a  beninese well known folkloric tune.

The band "Orchestre de La Fraternité Ivoirienne de Bouaké" was founded in 1963 by Djibo Sounkalo, the mayor of Bouaké. The band's mission was to facilitate and welcome, in this town of central Ivory-Coast, the Ivorian stars of the era such as Aïcha Koné, François Lougah, Queen Pelagie. Unfortunately, i have no information about Augution Konan N'Goran. Anyway this album is great.

Tapper Zukie (Jamaica/1978)

Tapper was nickname given to him by his grandmother in his youth, while Zukie was a name came from his friends' association as a young boy. Their gang was called The Zukies. In 1973, his mother, concerned with Zukies' tendency to get into trouble, sent him to England. Producer Bunny Lee arranged for him to undertake some recordings...

Migan Celestin & Orchestre Les Vodoun (1979)

Here is  another Migan celestin's sp recorded in 1979 which has two particularities: First, The Vodoun's band, i never heard about it (another obscure band of Benin), second, the great singer Miguelito who sings in "Mosaico" title.
